A Sad Day for our Inner Children
February 27, 2003
This morning, February 27, 2003, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a part of each of us passed on. Mr. Fred Rogers, of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, died of stomach cancer.
Mr. Rogers, for all of the love you gave us, for all of the knowledge you passed on, for all the tips that sparked our imaginations, and for never ever judging us, I can only offer two words -- Thank you.
Your kindness will not be forgotten. You have taught us all that it is okay to be inquisitive and let our minds lead the way. You've taught us that it is okay to have puppets for friends. You've taught us all that it is okay to wear a cardigan in public. You've taught us all that it is okay to have "indoor" shoes. You've taught us all that it's okay to be responsible and feed the fish. You've taught us all that it's okay to decorate your house with a stoplight. And most importantly, you've taught us all that it's okay to be nice to the mailman.
